Medford Recipient of Massachusetts Municipal Association's Kenneth E. Pickard Municipal Innovation Award
“Go Green Medford was selected because the program demonstrates dedication, commitment, and ability to increase the effectiveness of local government by successfully implementing this unique and creative project,” said Geoffrey C. Beckwith, Executive Director of the MMA.
Medford’s Go Green Program was judged on originality, cost effectiveness, efficiency, productivity, community satisfaction, and its ability to address a common community issue. Lastly, the programs were judged on their ability to be adapted to other communities and the program had to demonstrate that it improved a municipal service. These criteria were paramount in being selected as the winner of this award.
“Medford’s Go Green Program, is a city wide initiative that enables Medford to reduce our carbon footprint, while lowering operating costs and developing a comprehensive energy and environmental program affecting all aspects of our community," said Mayor McGlynn. "Go Green Medford is a program that has been implemented everywhere in Medford: at the schools, at local businesses, and at residences. The program has helped to define our City and put it on the map as a Green Community as recognized by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The program’s goal is to continue to reach out to all citizens educating them to conserve, reduce, and reuse in order to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives, works or visits the City of Medford."
