Medford Celebrates Flag Day June 14, 2012

Today, Thursday, June 14, is Flag Day and the City of Medford is flying their Veterans Flag, a 45 foot by 90 foot American Flag, (a replica of a similar flag which flies at Mount Rushmore). The Flag stretches from the top of Medford City Hall to just short of the ground.

“In Medford, we always take the time to honor not only our veterans who made great sacrifices in order to protect our freedoms, but we also take the time to honor our Flag, which is the symbol of freedom around the world," said Mayor Michael McGlynn.

The colors of the American flag represent the following: White- signifies purity and innocence, Red- hardiness and valour, and Blue- signifies vigilance, perseverance and justice. It has also been said that the red stripes on the flag are symbolic of the blood that was shed in the war that led to the establishment of the United States as an independent republic.

The flag will remain on Medford City Hall until 5:00 PM Thursday.
