The Council hosts an Al Anon group in the Senior Center Library. The group meets at 10:30 am on Mondays. Transportation may be arranged by calling SCM Transportation at: 617-625-1191.

Taxi coupons provide a 20% fare discount from one of the local cab companies, and may be purchased at the COA office. A $10.00 book costs $8.00.
5. Home Maintenance Program |
A handyman is available to assist elders with minor home repairs, such as removal and installation of screen and storm windows, small carpentry and plumbing jobs. Yard work is scheduled three times a year per client; no leaf removal. Fees for service are assessed according to a sliding scale. The program operates from March to November. Program is funded through a grant from the Medford Office of Community Development. For more information, call: 781-396-6011.
6. Monthly Service Programs |
Legal services from private elder law attorney Dale Tamburro visits the Center monthly; call for an appointment. Local jewelers Roland & John Racicot conduct a Jewelry Repair Shop on site at the Senior Center, by appointment. A Low Vision Group meets the third Friday of the month; call: 617-926-4312 for details on how to enroll. A Diabetes Support Group, sponsored by Winchester Hospital, is held at 11:00 am on the last Thursday of the month. In addition, Oral Screenings are offered by Dr. James Toyias, DMD on a monthly basis. For more information about any of the above programs and to make appointments call: 781-396-6010.
The Congregate Meals and Meals-On-Wheels Programs are administered by Mystic Valley Elder Services, Inc. (MVES), our local area agency on aging. Information regarding eligibility for Meals-On-Wheels may be obtained by calling MVES Nutrition Services at: 781-324-7705. Reservations for a Congregate Meal may be made on-site. For the Senior Center meal site, reservations you may also reserve by calling the COA office (781-396-6010) at least 24 hours in advance. Meal sites are located as follows:

In addition to classes (see: (3)), the Council and its Drop-In Center offer day trips to restaurants, museums, theaters and other places of interest. Overnight and extended trips primarily to New England destinations are planned periodically. Theme parties and other celebrations are scheduled about eight times a year.
9. Senior Citizens’ Drop-In Center |
The Drop-In Center offers a variety of activities and programs daily, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Drop by to play cards or Bingo, attend a seminar or just to chat. Plan your day to include the noon meal (see: (6)). The Greater Medford Visiting Nurses Association conducts monthly Blood Pressure Screenings on the first Thursday of the month, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

The Senior Sounds is published and distributed throughout the community on a monthly basis. Current information on activities, programs, and recreational
activities sponsored by the Council, as well as by local agencies, is featured in each issue. Timely information on services, health insurance, finances and other areas of concern for older adults is also included. Please CLick Here to View Latest Issue
Assistance is available to seniors and their families for advocacy; information & referral; help with filing medical and other insurance forms; SHINE (Serving the Health & Information Needs of Elders) Program services; individual assessment and personal matters. The Council on Aging provides space and other considerations to network agencies offering seasonal and continuing programs to Medford elders. Offerings include: seminars on financial management, public services, health, social and benefits issues; tax aid and health screenings.
SCM Transportation, Inc. provides resident elders and handicapped individuals with medical and nutrition-related (Senior Center Meal Site & Shopping) transportation. Call: 617-625-1191 for more information, and to schedule a ride. Supported by grants from the Medford Office of Community Development and the MA Executive Office of Elder Affairs.
